There are 1,538 acres of public park land that Dickinson Parks and Recreation owns, manages and maintains. Groups planning picnics can reserve Lions Park (at Patterson Lake), Eagles Park, Jaycee Park, Turtle Park, Rocky Butte, Gress Softball Complex, old Archery Range (at Patterson Lake) or All Seasons Park by calling the Parks and Recreation Office at 456-2074. A non-refundable fee of $25.00 per shelter is required for all shelters except Eagles Park & Lions Park, which require a non-refundable fee of $30.00 per shelter. Seven days prior to the picnic you must sign a permit for use of the picnic shelters and if needed, an alcohol permit. This may be done during regular office hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Picnic bags (containing volleyball, football, soccer ball, play ball, softball bat, 2 softballs and 2 Frisbees) are available for a fee of $5.00 upon request. |

| Crooked Crane Trail Project |

Crooked Crane Trail Project is a 17 mile multiple use trail around Patterson Lake was developed and is maintained through the cooperative efforts of Dickinson Parks & Recreation and the Balancer's Bicycle Club. The trail is utilized by joggers, hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers. Trail posts clearly define the dirt single track. The rolling terrain around the lake offers a scenic escape from the nearby paved urban setting. |

| Dickinson Dike |

The Dickinson Dike renovation project was coordinated by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department through the Save Our Lakes Program. The enhancements include: Renovation of Turtle Park, walking trail, enhanced fishing piers, better shoreline access along with better water quality and fish. The project was accomplished through a partnership of numerous agencies including the Southwest Anglers, North Dakota Game & Fish, City of Dickinson, Western Soil Conservation District, Stark County Water Resource District and many others. Dickinson is proud to have the Dickinson Dike family/youth fishing area in our backyard.

The Dickinson Recreation Center is the home of the Dickinson Hockey Club. Interested in having a skating party? Call us to reserve your time at the Recreation Center for your birthday party or skate party. Groups interested in renting the Recreation Center for picnics or other events such as meetings, educational seminars, conventions, shows, etc. can reserve the facility by contacting Dickinson Parks and Recreation. The facility consists of one large classroom and an arena which measures 216 ft x 137 ft with a seating capacity of 1,000. Rental rates are available hourly and daily with discounts for multiple day usage. Stop at Leisure Park around the Recreation Center. This 1.1 mile, ten foot wide asphalt loop is open to the general public for walking, jogging and any non-motorized vehicles. To help you enjoy your exercise, various benches have been located along the trail and newly planted trees have signs attached to them identifying the different tree and plant species. |

| Lake Tschida |

Lake Tschida (Heart Butte Reservoir) is located in southwestern North Dakota approximately 15 miles south of Glen Ullin. The lake was created in 1949 when Heart Butte Dam on the Heart River was completed. The dam and reservoir are managed by the Bureau of Reclamation for Downstream Flood Control and Irrigation. Recreation areas around the lake offer fishing, boating, camping, and swimming. |

| Little Missouri State Park |

Little Missouri State Park contains some of the most rugged, picturesque badlands terrain in North Dakota. Most of the park is accessible only on horseback or on foot. Within the park are numerous wildlife species, including mule deer, coyote, fox, bobcat and golden eagle. Guided horseback rides are available from a concessionaire. In addition, corrals and well water are provided for those bringing in their own mounts to ride the thirty miles of trails. Use of certified weed-free feed is required. The park is located along a state designated scenic byway. |

Patterson Lake Recreational Area is 3 miles west and 1 mile south of Dickinson on old Highway 10. Patterson Lake is owned by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and is managed by Dickinson Parks & Recreation. Recreation activities include boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, horseshoe pits, camping, picnicking, playgrounds, nature areas, mountain biking and more. |

| Sulley Creek Recreation Area |

Sulley Creek State Recreation Area is located in the heart of the North Dakota Badlands, Sully Creek is just minutes away from the historic town of Medora & Theodore Roosevelt National Park. In the early spring, canoeing the 274-mile long Little Missouri River offers a unique perspective of the badlands from North Dakota's only state scenic river. Corrals are provided for those bringing in their own horses. Horseback riders, mountain bikers & hikers have access to the 120-mile long Maah Daah Hey Trail, which traverses the Little Missouri National Grassland. Use of certified weed-free hay is required by those bringing in livestock. Those using the trail should carry adequate potable H2O for drinking. |
